Are you a Wizard, Barbarian or Witch Doctor?

Strange question for a business blog right?

My husband has a passion for gaming and his genre is Role Playing Games (RPG's).  Every now and then I'll play too as he loves to watch me play, and to be quite honest, some of them can be so engaging and suck you right in....and before you know it hours can pass like minutes.  I try not to play too often as I have much that I wish to accomplish with my business rather than lose hours, days or even weeks trying to beat that last big boss!  lol

Recently we played Diablo 3, which had been promised by Blizzard Entertainment and fans have waited for over 10 years for it.  Hubby says it was well worth the wait.  The graphics are amazing - cut scenes like a movie, enough zombies (or undead as they prefer to be called), quests and loot drops to keep any serious gamer satisfied.

In most RPG's you must create a character and choose what class you will be.

First of all there are Mellee Fighters like Knights or Barbarians. They are strong, and rely on that strength to carry them through whatever tests may come.  They show no fear, and run into battle with their weapon and head held high, believing in their power to win, no matter what.  But often a mellee fighter's strength is their weakness.  Their self-belief is high, but sometimes they come across someone stronger than them and they must run away and regain their strength before carrying on.  A mellee fighter must have conviction in their cause to come back and try again and again until they succeed.

Then there are range or Distance Fighters such as Wizards, Mages or Hunters. These are the true thinkers of all the classes often with higher intelligence, they take their time to weigh up a situation before running in.  They can stand back and see the big picture, picking off small tasks (and enemies) before they take on the bigger ones.They work out where their hits will be most successful and focus on that. Wizards weakness is fighting big battles against strong enemies.  They have power from a distance, but up close they can appear quite weak and can be brought almost to death time and again.  Wizards can bounce back quite quickly with healing spells, but if not paid attention to..it can be too late and you must start all over again.

Finally there are Summoners such as Necromancers or Witch Doctors.  These characters are known for using others (creatures or such) to fight their battles for them. They are not powerful as a single entity, but when they have their hoarde of creatures around them they can achieve great things.

And so, that brings me to the above question - what class is YOUR business character?

Are you the Barbarian, or knight?  The mellee fighter who gets in the middle of the action, has strong self-belief and can bash your way through any tests and trials that come your way? You are invincible - nothing can stop you!

Are you the Wizard or Hunter?  The intelligent being who stands back and assesses the situation before choosing where to act most effectively.  Not so strong in person, but extremely powerful, great at strategic thinking and often underestimated.

Or are you the Witch Doctor?  A summoner who enlists others and relies on their strength to achieve their goals.  They are powerful leaders and use their influence over those under them.

Personally, I can relate mostly with the wizard in my style, and that is often the character class I choose whenever I play games with my hubby.  But I would like to think that I have some characteristics of all three in my business "Character" or personality.  It is an interesting subject to think about.   You may think, it's just a game, why get all serious about it?  Well, it IS just a game, but there is so much to learn in life....even from the small...and fun things!  If an idea came into my mind about something like this, then why not explore it?  I would love to hear any thoughts or ideas you have on this topic!  Please share any comments you have with us below.

Are you TRYING to do something?

Something came up for me recently...and it was while I was in the shower, for of course, isn't this where all great thoughts and inspirations happen??

I was having a conversation with someone in my head, as you do, about what I was doing in my life. I found myself saying to this person that I was trying as hard as I could. I was 'trying' to do this and 'trying' to do that.

Something inside of me said quite firmly to myself - 'Stop Trying! - Just DO IT!'

This was no great mystical revelation to me. I've heard this before.

In the very words of the wise and aged Yoda (from Star Wars) "Do, or Do Not, there is no Try!"

No, this was no new piece of news for me. I like to think of it as a reminder. Like a wake-up call, or a prod with a cattle stick. Hey You - stop saying you're only 'trying' to do something and actually do it!

There is such a fine line between Trying and Doing - we can be doing the same actions for both...but it's more about the mindset. Do we have our head in the right space? Are we fully backing ourselves? The moment we say 'Try', even just in our heads...('oh yeah, we'll give it a try') we're not being very determined, not backing our ability to follow through and complete the thing.

When you examine the motive behind 'trying' it's all about giving it a go. Not fully believing that you can achieve it, but I'll 'try my best'.

But the moment you say you're going to DO something, then that put's you into a positive mindset - you're not just going to try to do it, but you are GOING TO DO IT! You back yourself - you say I CAN do it, and I will DO IT! It's like you have erased any doubts, there is certainty there. It's like the thing has already been accomplished.

Think about it like this - do you say "I'm going to try and have a shower". Umm, well no. You have no doubts in your ability to shower, and therefore you state 'I'm going to have a shower'. You are doing it, not just trying.

So why is it we so often say that we will 'try' to do something? Do we lack confidence? Do we doubt our ability? Well, stop it! You are Capable - likely much more than you realise. I believe in YOU, and I don't even know you. I believe every single one of us is capable of achieving whatever it is we set our minds to.

The first step is choosing our goal, and then getting our heads into the right mindset, and taking action. Follow this, and you'll no longer be 'trying' but you'll be DOING!

Make today a great day!

Evidence of Successful People

I would like to share something with you that I wrote down at a workshop about a year ago, that I like to refer back to on a regular basis:

Success requires Action
Action requires Motivation
Motivation requires Belief
Belief requires Evidence

By the laws of reversibility, this is true the other way around: Evidence...creates Belief, which creates Motivation, which creates Action....and Action leads to Success!

With this in mind, if you are seeking to have success in some area in your life, then one important thing to address is Evidence!

So, say you are an entrepreneur, just starting out and you have not sold anything yet, had no success as yet and really have no evidence of success in your own life...as yet. There is a term in the industry - do you just "Fake it until you Make it"? Well, I would suggest a big resounding NO! That does not hold to being truthful, ethical, being genuine, or having integrity, and certainly does not sit well with me. And believe me, your customers or prospects will pick up on the sense that you are not being completely honest with them too.

If you are not at this time the creator of your own evidence, then where do you go to find the evidence that will create the belief in yourself and your company/products that will motivate you to take the necessary action that will inevitably lead to your success?

The easy answer to that question is...the people around you who are having success!

For entrepreneurs this can be by live or recorded calls, read great books, go to live conferences and events, call your advisor, or find someone to mentor you.

If you are an athlete wanting to succeed, then you surround yourself with other successful athlete's. If you are a musician wanting to do well in the industry, you seek out successful musicians and find out what they did to succeed. If you are an entrepreneur wanting to succeed in business, you find other successful entrepreneurs to mix with and brainstorm with and find out what they are doing to succeed.

They are your evidence of what is possible! You mix with them, learn their mindset, see the discipline they have, see the kind of action they take and the consistent way they do things. In associating with like-minded successful people, you also get to see that they are just regular people like you and I. And there is power in that for you - you truly are not very different to them! If they can do it...you can do it! And there is your evidence. You can do it...because you have seen it already done by someone just like you! You KNOW for a certainty that it is achievable...if you follow the same steps - mindset, action, discipline, consistency!

And after you follow these steps...and have your own success, then let that spur you on further - you become your own evidence, and you can go on to be that successful person who creates evidence to others around you of what truly is possible!

A leader is a person who provides vision for others. You become a part of the solution, not just in your own life, but in the lives of many!

So, what are you waiting for? Go out & be the Leader I know you can be!

Much Success to You!

Is Your Cup Full?

No, I'm not talking about seeing the glass as half full or half empty!

There is a chinese proberb that talks about emptying your cup. I'd like to share it here with you now:

A young man after becoming quite successful decided to visit his teacher to boast about his success. On arrival, the young man told the teacher he visited to learn more from him and then began to boast of his own achievements. He then told the teacher that he wanted to learn more and before the teacher said anything, he continued to boast of his own achievements and this went on and on.

When tea was served, the teacher poured tea into the young man cup. When the cup was full, the teacher continued to pour until it overflowed. When the tea overflowed, the young man told the teacher but the teacher continued pouring until the tea overflowed to the floor. The young man told the teacher again that the tea had overflowed.

The teacher then said, “Young man, I cannot teach you anything today because your cup is already full. Go home and empty your cup and then come and see me again if you want to learn more.”

So...is your cup full or empty?

Do you have an open mind - one receptive to new thoughts, new ideas, new teachings?

Do you seek to learn and are humble and teachable?

There is a world of things out there that we know we don't know....but a universe of things we don't even know that we don't know.

If you have a thirst for knowledge....empty your cup!

Personal Development

What is Personal Develoment? Some people get a bit confused when this term is mentioned. They think it's just using a Personal Trainer to work out, others think it's doing Yoga and Meditations, and some may think it's just repeating mantra's or affirmations in the hope something good will come their way! "Isn't it all just a bit too airy fairy?" - well No, it's not.

In an effort to shed light on this subject here is the definition of Personal Development given on Wikipedia:

Personal development
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The field of personal development includes individual self-development and the development of others. By extension, personal development may involve programs, tools and methods. At the level of the individual, personal development includes goals, plans or actions oriented towards one or more of the following aims:

* improving self-awareness
* improving self-knowledge
* building or renewing identity
* developing strengths or talents
* identifying or improving potential
* building employability or human capital
* enhancing lifestyle or the quality of life
* realizing dreams
* fulfilling aspirations
* defining and executing personal development plans

The concept covers a wider field than self-development or self-help: personal development also includes developing others. This may take place through roles such as those of a teacher or mentor, through a personal competency (such as the skill of certain managers in developing the potential of employees), or through a professional service (such as providing training, assessment or coaching).

Beyond improving oneself and developing others, personal development is a field of practice and research. As a field of practice it includes personal development methods, learning programs, assessment systems, tools and techniques. The following sections on education and management discuss areas of practice. As a field of research, personal development topics increasingly appear in scientific journals, higher education reviews, management journals and business books.

Any sort of development — whether economic, political, biological, organizational or personal — requires a framework if one wishes to know whether change has actually occurred. In the case of personal development, an individual often functions as the primary judge of improvement, but validation of objective improvement requires assessment using standard criteria. Personal development frameworks may include goals or benchmarks that define the end-points, strategies or plans for reaching goals, measurement and assessment of progress, levels or stages that define milestones along a development path, and a feedback-system to provide information on changes.
